Gorham Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) is a municipally-run third service EMS agency. Our staff consists of an EMS Director, Operations Manager, a captain, 3 lieutenants, and numerous providers, all of whom hold EMS certification ranging from Emergency Medical Responder on up to Paramedic. GEMS is the primary 911 EMS provider for the towns of Gorham, Randolph, and Shelburne, as well as several unincorporated areas of southeastern Coos county. In addition to our 911 EMS responsibilities, we also provide back-up EMS response to several surrounding communities as requested, emergency and non-emergency inter-facility transports from several medical facilties, and stand-by coverage for local events. We also provide continuing education for our providers as well as CPR education and initial EMS training for the community.
Medically, our members are progressive providers, operating under the NH EMS Treatment protocols. In addition to aggressive protocols, our members are provided with the latest in medical equipment, including Zoll E-Series cardiac monitor/defibrillators, EZ-IO intraossous induction devices, Ferno Pro-Flexx stretchers and EZ-Glide stairchairs. We respond with 2 state of the art type 3 ambulances which are well-maintained on a regular basis and are replaced on a rotating schedule.
